Commemoration - 2016

In 2016 we commemorate:
  • 1130 years from the beginning of the distribution of the Slavic alphabet in Bulgaria. The disciples of St. Cyril and St. Methodius – Kliment, Gorazd, Naum, Angelarius and Sava, called St. Sedmochislenitsi, were warmly welcomed by King Boris I, and began their missionary work. Time goes by, but the remarkable work of these men of letters, is the torch, that lights our Bulgarian way and leads us through the centuries (886);
  • 1100 years from the death of St. Kliment Ohridski – Bulgarian enlightener, disciple and first assistant of the St. Brothers Cyril and Methodius, founder of the Ohrid Literary School (840-916);
  • 200 years from the birth of Antim I – the first Bulgarian Exarch, church and social figure (1816-1888);
  • 160 years since the first celebration of 24 May as the Day of St. Cyril and St. Methodius, of the Bulgarian enlightenment and culture, in the town of Plovdiv on the initiative of Najden Gerov (1856);
  • 155 years from the publication of the collection “Bulgarian Folk Songs” by the brothers Dimitur and Konstantin Miladinovi – prominent educators and folklorists of the Bulgarian National Revival. In 1861 is released their epochal work, in which they collect, arrange and systematize for the first time samples of the Bulgarian folklore (1861);
  • 150 years from the birth of Pencho Slavejkov – Bulgarian poet and translator (1866-1912);
  • 140 years from the April Uprising. The April Uprising in 1876 deepened the East crisis and its success is in its international reaction, achieved by the heroism of many thousands of victims. Only one year after the brutal blood suppression of the Uprising, Russia declared war on the Ottoman Empire, and in 1878 on the map of Europe after five centuries slavery resurrects the state of130 years from the birth of Dora Gabe – prominent Bulgarian writer and translator (1886-1983);
  • 100 years from the death of the great poet Dimcho Debelianov (1887-1916);
